Overview

The Optimize feature reviews your asset designs and flags common issues automatically. These checks help improve your email and landing page performance.

Configuring Optimize Rules

Self Serve Optimize Rules are currently in Alpha testing. Please reach out to maral.artang@knak.com if you would like to participate.

Otherwise reach out to Knak Support or your CSM to configure your optimize rules.

Follow these steps to manage your Optimize Rules.

Step 1: Open Admin Settings

  1. Go to the left-hand navigation menu.

  2. Click Admin.

Step 2: Navigate to Optimize Rules

  1. Scroll to the Optimize Rules section under the Company drop down menu.

  2. View the list of available rules.

Step 3: Edit Optimize Rules

  1. Locate the rule you want to update.

  2. Press the Pencil Icon beside the rule to edit the optimize rule.

  3. Choose a severity level:

    1. High – The rule is required.

    2. Medium – The rule is recommended.

    3. Ignore – The rule is not enforced.

Use High severity level for compliance or brand-critical requirements, Medium for guidance, and Ignore if the rule is not necessary.

Note: High severity rules prevent you from syncing an asset if the rule is not resolved.

If you have the Sync Assets That Are Not Optimized role permission, you can override High severity rules and proceed with syncing. Learn more about role permissions here.

Step 4: Save Changes

Changes apply immediately across all assets.

To Reset Optimize Rules:

  1. Press the circular arrow icon beside the edit button if you'd like to revert one optimize rule back to the default value.

  2. If you'd like to revert all optimize rules, click Reset All to Defaults.

  3. Review the popup modal that displays which rules will be reset to their default severity.

  4. Click Reset All to confirm.

View Optimize Rules in Studio

Once configured, Optimize Rules appear when working on an asset in the Studio.

  1. Open an email or landing page.

  2. Click the Optimize tab in the top navigation bar.

This view helps you understand what must be completed before publishing.

Available Optimize Rules

Optimize reviews your assets for the following issues:

  • Alternate Text - Checks if Alt text is provided on images

  • Asset Translation - Checks if the translated variant is up to date with the parent asset

  • Background Height - The section height is greater than 2050 pixels

  • Border Color - Checks to see the colors used will work with Dark Mode

  • Button Border - Checks to see if there's enough contrast on the border of the button

  • Button Links - Checks if all button links have URLs added

  • Button Over Background Image - Checks to see if there's a button over a background image as rounded corners will be square on Outlook

  • Color Contrast - Checks to see if there is low contrast between the background and text colors

  • Content Links - Checks if a valid link exists, helps ensure that all links in text content actually point somewhere meaningful rather than being empty or incomplete

  • Dark Mode Color Choices - Check to see the selection of text and background colors used in Dark Mode

  • Dark Mode Color Contrast - Checks to see if there is low contrast between the background and text colors used in Dark Mode

  • Deleted/Unpublished Modules - Checks that the modules in the email are not deleted or unpublished

  • Email Preference Link - Checks to see if it has an unsubscribe or email preference center link

  • Email Size - Checks to see if the email is below 102kb

  • Email Title - Email title is longer than 30 characters

  • From Address - Checks if a valid from address exists

  • Image Dimensions - The width or height of an image element breaks the rules set in the editor restrictions for that module

  • Out Of Date Modules - Checks if all modules used in the asset are up to date

  • Preview Text - Preview text is less than 15 characters

  • Reply-To Address - Checks if a valid reply-to email exists

  • Subject Line - Checks if a subject line exists

  • Variant Segment Assignment - Checks if dynamic content variants have segmentations assigned


Understanding the Results

Each item will show one of three statuses:

  • Passed (Optimal)

  • Warning (Medium Impact)

  • Failed (High Impact)

If something fails:

  • Click Highlight to locate the issue in your email.

  • Click Edit to go directly to the section for fixes.

Brand Voice Rules

Note: This feature is currently in Alpha testing. Please reach out to kate.mosley@knak.com if you would like to participate.

Brand Voice Optimize is part of Optimize Checks. It scans your email content against brand voice rules configured by your Admin.

What Brand Voice Optimize Checks

You see issues related to:

  • Spelling

  • Restricted words

  • Formatting rules

You do not see feedback for tone or personality.

Run Brand Voice Optimize

  1. Open your email in the editor.

  2. Open the Optimize tab.

  3. Click Run Brand Voice Check.

  4. Fix or dismiss issues based on the suggestions.
