What Are Element Tags?

Element tags help define the structure of your email content. You can assign HTML tags like:

  • H1, H2, H3 โ€” for headings

  • P โ€” for paragraph text

These tags don't change how text looks in the builder. Instead, they define how it is rendered in the email client, helping screen readers and improving email deliverability.

Default Tag Behavior

Every text element in Knak is assigned a P (paragraph) tag by default. You can manually change this to H1, H2, H3, or back to P based on your content structure.

Set Element Tags

Follow these steps to apply element tags in the Builder:

  1. Open your email or landing page in the Builder.

  2. Select the text element you want to tag.

  3. In the right-hand side panel, find the Element Tag dropdown.

  4. Choose the appropriate tag:

    • Use H1 for main titles

    • Use H2 or H3 for subheadings

    • Use P for standard paragraphs

  5. The tag is now applied in the HTML structure.

Note: This change does not affect the visual appearance in the builder.

Set an Image as a Heading

Use an image as a heading (H1, H2, H3) to visually enhance your email or landing page. Ensure accessibility by adding alternative (alt) text.

Why Use an Image as a Heading

  • Add visual impact to titles or sections

  • Maintain brand consistency with styled heading images

  • Improve layout flexibility for creative designs

How to Set an Image as a Heading

  1. Click the image element in your email or landing page.

  2. In the right-hand properties panel, open the Heading Level dropdown.

  3. Select a heading level (H1, H2, H3, etc.).

Note: Setting a heading level applies semantic structure to your content. This improves screen reader accessibility and helps search engines understand your layout.

If you set an image as a heading, you must enter alternative (alt) text. If you set an image as a heading and it does not have alt text, a warning will appear in the Optimize tab

Why Use Element Tags?

  • Accessibility: Helps screen readers interpret your content hierarchy.

  • Readability: Improves structure for human readers and email clients.

  • Deliverability: Clean HTML improves how inboxes receive your email.

Best Practices

  • Only use one H1 tag per email.

  • Nest H2 and H3 tags in logical order under the H1.

  • Avoid skipping levels (e.g., donโ€™t go from H1 to H3).

  • Always review your structure before publishing.
