Overview
Autofix scans your design for unsupported layer structures, then applies automatic fixes so you can publish successfully. This feature helps reduce manual troubleshooting in complex designs.
When Autofix Appears
The Figma plugin automatically detects unsupported layer structures during the sync process.
If Autofix is needed, a notification dot appears on the More Options menu in the plugin:
Note: Layer structure issues usually happen after manually editing plugin-generated layers in Figma. Designs built fully with the Knak plugin are less likely to experience sync issues.
What Causes Layer Structure Issues?
Layer structure issues happen when required design elements are moved, removed, or nested incorrectly.
Common causes include:
Moving columns outside of sections
Nesting sections incorrectly
Deleting required parent layers
Placing design elements outside the main email structure
Copying and pasting unsupported elements into the design
Creating too many nested sections
These issues can prevent your email from syncing properly into Knak.
How to Run Autofix
To run Autofix:
Open the Knak Figma plugin
Click More Options
Select Review and Fix Figma Layers
The plugin scans your design and automatically applies supported fixes.
What Autofix Fixes
Autofix can repair several common layer structure issues automatically.
Supported fixes include:
Converting sections nested inside other sections into supported nested sections
Removing columns placed outside sections
Removing elements missing required parent layers
Removing unsupported elements outside the main email design
Removing excess nested sections beyond the supported limit
Autofix focuses on resolving sync blockers so your design can publish successfully.

What Autofix Cannot Repair
Autofix helps resolve sync blockers. It does not fully rebuild unsupported layouts.
Keep these limitations in mind:
Autofix may remove unsupported elements
Visual changes may occur after fixes are applied
Some designs may still require manual cleanup
Autofix does not redesign broken layouts automatically
Tip: After Autofix completes. Always review your design in Figma before syncing to Knak. Some unsupported elements may be removed automatically.
Best Practices
Follow these recommendations to reduce sync issues:
Avoid manually restructuring plugin-generated layers
Keep columns inside sections
Avoid excessive nested sections
Review your layer structure before syncing
Use Figma Undo if Autofix removes content you want to keep
Build layouts using supported Knak plugin elements whenever possible
