How to Set Up the Eloqua Integration and Sync

Connect Knak to Eloqua to sync emails and landing pages directly into your Eloqua instance. This integration uses the Eloqua REST API to simplify asset syncing and publishing.

Before You Start

Before setting up the integration, make sure you have:

  • Permission to create users and security groups in Eloqua

  • A dedicated email address for the Knak sync user

  2. Go to Account Settings → Integrations → Platforms.

Configure Minimum Sync Permissions in Eloqua

Recommended: Create a dedicated Eloqua security group and API user for Knak. This limits access to only the assets required for syncing.

Create a New Security Group

Open Eloqua Settings

  1. In Eloqua, click the Settings gear icon in the bottom navigation bar.

If you do not see Settings, contact your Eloqua administrator for additional permissions.

Create the Security Group

  1. Click Users.

  2. Open the user dropdown menu.

  3. Select New Security Group.

  4. Enter a name for the group.

  5. Enter an acronym.

Configure Asset Permissions

Open Asset Creation Settings

  1. Select Asset Creation.

  2. Enable these asset permissions:

    • Dynamic Content

    • Emails

    • Landing Pages (optional)

      • Landing Pages are only required if you plan to sync landing page templates from Knak.

Configure Default Asset Permissions

Open Default Asset Permissions

  1. Click Security Group Overview to return to the Overview Page

  2. Select Default Asset Permissions.

  3. Set Access Levels

  4. Configure permissions for users who need access to synced assets.

  5. Adjust all other permissions based on your organization's workflow.

  6. If you sync landing pages from Knak, Repeat the same permission setup for Landing Pages.

Note: Users who manage synced assets may also require delete or permission-management access.

Create the Knak Sync User

Add a New User

  1. Click Add New User.

Assign the Security Group

  1. Keep the default Eloqua user settings.

  2. Add the user to the newly created Knak security group.

Configure Email Access

  1. Use an email address that you can access.

    1. Tip: Use an email alias when setting up integrations (for example, youremail+api@domain.com).
This keeps all integrations tied to one dedicated account. It also prevents disruptions if a team member leaves.

  2. Enable Send User a New Welcome Email.

Set the Password

  1. Create a password for the user.

  2. Save the credentials securely.

  3. Use these credentials when authorizing Eloqua in Knak.

Configure Eloqua Forms Access

If you use Eloqua forms inside Knak landing pages, the Knak API user must have permission to access those forms.

Grant Form Permissions

  1. Open the form in Eloqua.

  2. Go to Actions → Permissions.

  3. Add the Knak API user or a shared security group that includes the Knak API user.

  4. Grant at least View access.

    1. Without at least View access, the Knak API user cannot read the form definition when Knak attempts to embed the form into a landing page.

You can also grant access through a shared security group.

Recommended Long-Term Setup

To reduce ongoing maintenance, configure default form permissions to automatically include the Knak API user.

You can do this in two ways:

  • Add the Knak API user to a shared permissions group used for forms

  • Update default form creation permissions to include that group

This setup ensures newly created forms are automatically accessible to Knak. It also reduces the need for manual permission updates on each form.

Manage Your Integration

Once the integration is connected, you can manage it from the Integrations page in Knak.

View, Edit, or Delete a Connection

  1. Go to Admin → Integrations → Platforms.

  2. Locate your connection under My Platform Connections.

From here you can:

  • View the integration configuration

  • Edit the connection settings

  • Delete the integration

    My Platform Connections section.

Connect an Additional Integration

You can create another connection if needed.

  1. Go to Admin → Integrations → Platforms.

  2. Scroll to the All Platforms section.

  3. Locate Salesforce Account Engagement (Pardot).

  4. Click Connect or Add Another Connection.

Use this option if you need to:

  • Connect another Salesforce instance

  • Connect a different Business Unit

  • Re-add a previously deleted integration

Syncing to Eloqua

After the integration has been set up, you can sync over to Eloqua.

To do this:

  1. Click on Actions

  2. Choose Sync

  3. Choose the Email Group and Sync Folder

  4. Click the Sync button and your asset will now be synced over.

When syncing to Eloqua, Knak syncs the following email header fields:

1. From Name - $from_name

2. From Email - $from_email

3. Reply To Email - $reply_email

4. Subject - $subject

5. Preview Text - $preview_text"
