Two of the most popular email clients (Gmail & Yahoo) are rolling out some changes in 2024 which will impact anyone sending marketing emails to users of those platforms.

Considering these are the 2nd & 4th most popular email clients out there, these changes will affect basically anyone who sends emails.

Full details of the changes can be found here - Gmail & Yahoo

The main changes are coming in 2024 are:

  • Authentication - SPF, DKIM & DMARC will now be mandatory

  • Low spam rates - Emails from senders with a spam rate above 0.3 % will be sent to the spam folder

  • One click unsubscribe process - Users need to be able to unsubscribe with one click

How to address these new challenges

Proper Authentication

SPF, DKIM & DMARC are all authentication methods to ensure emails being sent from your domain are legitimate and not coming from a spammer or unauthorized sender. Ensuring you have these in place will aid in successful delivery of your emails to all recipients.

The setup of SPF, DKIM & DMARC is done under your domain so nothing would need to be done in Knak. The best person to help would be whomever manages your web domain e.g. www.knak.com

More information on setting up SPF, DKIM & DMARC can be found here

Low spam rates

Keeping your spam rates under .3% will be critical as of 2024 to ensure your emails are not automatically sent to the spam folder in Gmail & Yahoo. To achieve this we recommend follow best practices for email send & spam avoidance which are outlined in this article.

One click unsubscribe process

When the new rules come into force users will need to able to unsubscribe in one click. To achieve this we recommend reviewing your unsubscribe process and take steps to ensure recipients don't need to navigate multiple clicks or pages to unsubscribe.

Adding a 'list unsubscribe header' is also recommended, if you're using Marketo, this is normally added by default in Marketo.
