Update a Merge Tag Default Value
You can override the default value of a Marketo token without changing the original token configuration in Marketo.
Note: This feature applies only to static Marketo tokens. Tokens used within dynamic content that requires Velocity Script syntax cannot have their default values overridden from the Knak builder.
Step 1: Add a Merge Tag to Your Email
Open your email in the Knak builder.
Add a merge tag to your content.
Step 2: Edit the Default Value
Click the merge tag in your email.
Enter the new default value.
Click Update.
Step 3: Sync the Asset to Marketo
When you sync the asset to Marketo, the updated default value overrides the token's default value for that specific asset.
How It Works
Setting | Result |
Default value updated in Knak | Applies only to the synced asset |
Global Default value in Marketo | Remains unchanged |
Future assets using the same token in Knak | Continue using the original Marketo default value unless updated individually |
