Marketo Supported Emojis

Learn how to use emojis in emails synced from Knak to Adobe Marketo. Use supported Unicode characters to avoid sync errors.

Updated this week

Overview

You may see an error when syncing an email from Knak to Marketo that contains an emoji. This happens because Marketo does not support every emoji. Marketo only renders:

  • ASCII characters

  • Unicode characters up to version 5.2

Many modern emojis were introduced after Unicode 5.2. These emojis can cause a sync error when sending emails from Knak to Marketo.

When This Error Appears

The error appears during the email sync process. Marketo blocks the email if it contains unsupported characters.

Marketo emoji validation error during email sync.

Why Some Emojis Fail

Marketo supports an older Unicode standard. New emojis fall outside this supported character set.

Because of this limitation:

  • Some emojis sync successfully.

  • Some emojis trigger a sync error.

  • Some emojis render as blank characters in email clients.

You can find more information from this external document from Marketo.

Fix an Emoji Sync Error

Follow these steps to resolve the error.

  1. Open your email in Knak.

  2. Locate the emoji in your email content.

  3. Delete the unsupported emoji.

  4. Replace it with a supported Unicode character.

  5. Sync the email to Marketo again.
