Before You Begin
You should make all email edits in Knak whenever possible. Changes made in Pardot are not preserved when the email is re-synced from Knak.
If you edit a template in Pardot, Pardot may create a draft version of the email. Existing drafts can prevent newly synced changes from appearing. For more information, see Drafts and Re-Syncing below.

Before you can edit content in Pardot, you must open the email template.

Edit Email Content in Pardot
We recommend doing as much editing in Knak as possible for best results. That being said, Knak emails are coded so that they are compatible with the Pardot email editor. Meaning editing in Pardot is possible, however please be aware of the following limitations.
Edit Text
You can edit text directly in the Pardot email editor.
Open your email in Pardot.
Click the text block you want to update.
Use the Pardot text editor to make your changes.
Save your updates.
Edit Images
You can replace images in Pardot. Be careful when changing image dimensions.
Changing image width or height can affect responsive behavior. This may cause images to display incorrectly on mobile devices.
To maintain responsiveness:
Select the image.
Replace the image if needed.
Remove any fixed width values.
Remove any fixed height values.
Set the image width to 100%.
Edit Buttons
Button edits in Pardot require HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) knowledge.
Changing only the button URL may not update all required button code.
To edit button code:
Select the button.
Switch to Code View.
Update the HTML and CSS as needed.
Save your changes.
If you are not comfortable editing code:
Make the button update in Knak.
Re-sync or re-import the email into Pardot.
Content That Cannot Be Edited in Pardot
The following elements cannot be edited after the email is imported into Pardot:
Dividers
Social Icons
Custom HTML Blocks
Row Layout Changes
Layout Limitations
You cannot:
Add new rows
Remove existing rows
Rearrange email structure
Make these changes in Knak before syncing.
Add Dynamic Content
Recommended: Add Dynamic Content in Knak
If you plan to use Salesforce Account Engagement (Pardot) Dynamic Content, we recommend setting it up in Knak before syncing your email.
This approach helps maintain responsive design and reduces the need for manual edits in Pardot.
For setup instructions, see How to Set Up Account Engagement (Pardot) Dynamic Content.
Add Dynamic Content in Pardot
If needed, you can also add Dynamic Content after the email has been synced to Pardot.
To add Dynamic Content in Pardot:
Open the email template in Pardot.
Click the content area you want to personalize.
Click the Lightning Bolt icon.
Replace the content with Dynamic Content.
Dynamic Content Image Considerations
If your Dynamic Content includes images:
Images may not be responsive by default.
Images may not display correctly on mobile devices.
Custom CSS may be required for each image.
Test your email on desktop and mobile devices before sending.
Drafts and Re-Syncing
Pardot automatically creates drafts when changes are made to templates and Publish to Template is not clicked.
If you re-sync a template from Knak and do not see the latest updates in Pardot, an existing draft is usually the cause.
Delete Existing Drafts
To remove template drafts:
Navigate to Emails > Drafts.
Select Email Template Drafts.
Delete any existing drafts for the template.
Return to the template editor.
After the draft is removed, the latest version synced from Knak will appear.
Important
Before editing the latest version of a synced Knak template in Pardot:
Delete all existing template drafts.
Open the template again using Edit Email Template.
This ensures you are editing the most current version.
