Before You Start
Gather your Smartling credentials before you set up the integration.
You need:
Account ID: Also called the Account Unique Identifier (UID).
Username: Your Smartling User Identifier.
Password: Your Smartling Token Secret.
REST Endpoint URL:
api.smartling.comIntegration Name: Enter a name that helps you identify the connection in Knak.
Find Your Smartling Credentials
Sign in to Smartling.
Go to Integration Management → API.
Choose the token type you want to use:
Project Tokens: Use these credentials for a specific Smartling project.
Account Tokens: Use these credentials for account-level access.
Find Your Smartling Account ID
Find your Account Unique Identifier (UID) in either of these locations:
Check the URL after you sign in to Smartling. Your Account UID appears in the account portion of the URL.
Go to Settings → Organization or Account Settings → API. Look for Account UID.
Connect Smartling to Knak
Step 1: Open Platform Integrations
Step 2: Find the Smartling Integration Tile
Step 3: Enter Integration Details
Gather the following information from your Smartling dashboard:
Account ID (also called "Account UID")
Username (User Identifier)
Password (Token Secret)
REST Endpoint URL:
api.smartling.comIntegration Name
Step 4: Configure Additional Settings (Optional)
Customize how the Smartling integration works for your team.
Auto-Authorize
Use Auto-Authorize to control whether Smartling translation requests require manual authorization.
Turn Auto-Authorize ON to authorize translation requests immediately.
Turn Auto-Authorize OFF to require someone to authorize each job in Smartling.
Custom Placeholder Format
Lets you define custom placeholders (like triple braces) to exclude text from translation.
This setting can help you:
Prevent dynamic text from being changed during translation.
Protect code or placeholder values.
Reduce fixes after translation.
Control which content Smartling translates.
Base asset:
Translated asset:
Hide Due Date
Use Hide Due Date to remove the due date field from the translation workflow.
Turn this setting on when your process does not require users to select a due date. This keeps the submission experience simple.
Restrict Integration by Brand
Select Brand Restricted.
Choose which brands can access Smartling.
Only selected brands will see or use the integration.
Step 6: Save the Integration
Click Create New Integration.
Your Smartling connection is now available based on the settings and brand access you selected.
Managing Your Smartling Integration
To add another connection Smartling connection, scroll through the Platforms page to get to the Translations section and click Add Another Connection.
