How to set up the Smartling Integration

Connect your Smartling account to Knak to streamline translation requests and manage localization directly from your email and landing page builder.

Step 1: Log in and Access the Admin Page

  • Log in to your Knak account.

  • Go to the Admin section.

Step 2: Open Platform Integrations

  • From the Integrations drop-down, click Platforms.

Step 3: Find Smartling Under Translation

  • Scroll down to the Translation section.

  • Click Smartling and press the Connect button

Step 4: Enter Integration Details

You will need the following information from your Smartling dashboard:

  • Account ID (also called “Account UID”)

  • Username (User Identifier)

  • Password (Token Secret)

  • REST Endpoint URL: api.smartling.com

  • Optional: You can enter a name in the Integration Name field to help identify the integration in your Knak workspace.

Where to Find These Credentials

You can find all required details in your Smartling dashboard under Integration Management → API You can choose to generate either:

  • Project Tokens – Connects Knak to a specific project.

  • Account Tokens – Grants access to the entire Smartling account and all associated projects.

Finding the Smartling Account ID (Account UID)

You can locate your Account UID in two ways:

  • In the URL after signing in:
    Look for /account/{ACCOUNT_UID} in the address bar. Examples:

    • https://dashboard.smartling.com/accounts/{ACCOUNT_UID}/projects

    • https://app.smartling.com/app/account/{ACCOUNT_UID}/...

  • In Smartling settings:
    Go to Settings → Organization or Account Settings → API (or API Credentials)
    Find the 32-character alphanumeric ID labeled “Account UID”.

Auto-Authorize Option

You can choose whether to enable auto-authorize for translation jobs:

  • If auto-authorize is ON, translation requests are immediately approved and ready for translation once submitted from Knak.

  • If auto-authorize is OFF, submitted jobs will sit in a Smartling queue. Someone will need to manually log in, group them, and authorize them to begin translation.

Optional: Restrict Integration by Brand

If you want to limit access to this integration:

  1. Select Brand Restricted.

  2. Choose the brands that should have access.

Only selected brands will see or use the Smartling integration.

Step 5: Save the Integration

  • Click Create New Integration and after you receive confirmation the connection was successful your Smartling integration is now ready to use!

Managing Your Smartling Integration

  • Go to My Platform Connection to view, edit, or delete the integration.

  • To add another connection Smartling connection, scroll through the Platforms page to get to the Translations section and click Add Another Connection.
