How to Set Up the Smartling Integration

Connect your Smartling account to Knak to automate translations directly from your email or landing page builds.

Step 1: Log in and Access the Admin Page

  • Log in to your Knak account.

  • Go to the Admin section.

Step 2: Open Platform Integrations

  • In the Integrations drop-down, click Platforms.

Step 3: Find Smartling Under Translation

  • Scroll down to the Translation section.

  • Find the Smartling Tile and click Connect.

Step 4: Enter Integration Details

Gather the following information from your Smartling dashboard:

  • Account ID (also called "Account UID")

  • Username (User Identifier)

  • Password (Token Secret)

  • REST Endpoint URL: api.smartling.com

  • Integration Name

Where to Find These Credentials

  • Go to Integration Management β†’ API in Smartling.

  • Choose from:

    • Project Tokens for a specific project.

    • Account Tokens for full access.

Finding the Smartling Account ID

You can find it in two places:

  • In the URL after signing in:

    • https://dashboard.smartling.com/accounts/{ACCOUNT_UID}/projects

    • https://app.smartling.com/app/account/{ACCOUNT_UID}/...

  • In Settings β†’ Organization or Account Settings β†’ API. Look for the Account UID.

Step 5: Additional Settings (Optional)

Auto-Authorize

  • If ON, translation requests are immediately authorized.

  • If OFF, someone must manually authorize jobs in Smartling.

Custom Placeholder Format

What It Does

  • Lets you define custom placeholders (like triple braces) to exclude text from translation.

    • Example: Use \{\{\{.*?\}\}\} for triple brace placeholders.

Why It Matters

  • Prevents dynamic text or code from being altered.

  • Reduces post-translation fixes.

  • Gives more control over what gets translated.

Base asset:

Restrict Integration by Brand

  • Select Brand Restricted.

  • Choose which brands can access Smartling.

Only selected brands will see or use the integration.

Step 6: Save the Integration

  • Click Create New Integration.

Managing Your Smartling Integration

  • Go to My Platform Connection to view, edit, or delete the integration.

  • To add another connection Smartling connection, scroll through the Platforms page to get to the Translations section and click Add Another Connection.
