What Are Personas?
Knak Personas help you preview emails and assets using predefined recipient data.
Each Persona can include:
Merge tag values
Brand restrictions
Global segments
Avatar images
When you select a Persona in Preview, Knak automatically applies the configured settings. This creates a more realistic recipient experience.
Create a Persona
Navigate to the Admin side.
Click Personas.
Click Create Persona.
Enter a unique name.
Configure the Persona settings.
Optional Settings
You can add:
Description
Avatar image
Brand restrictions
Global segments
Merge tag values
Note: Persona names must be unique.
Configure Brand Restrictions
Associate one or more brands with a Persona.
Open the Brands section.
Click the + icon.
Search for and select a brand.
To add additional brands, click the + icon again and repeat the process.
Brand restrictions help simulate brand-specific experiences during preview.
Configure Global Segments
Associate Global Segments with a Persona.
Open the Global Segments section.
Click the + icon.
Search for and select a Global Segment.
To add additional Global Segments, click the + icon again and repeat the process.
When you select the Persona in Preview, associated Global Segments automatically activate.
Configure Merge Tag Values
Store merge tag values in a Persona to preview personalized content.
Use Default Values
If a merge tag already has a default value configured, that value automatically appears when you create or edit a Persona.
You can:
Keep the default value
Replace it with a Persona-specific value
Add Persona Values
Locate the merge tag.
Enter a value.
Click Save.
Example:

Save Your Persona
After configuring your settings:
Review the Persona configuration.
Click Save Changes.
The Persona is added to the Personas list and becomes available in Preview.

From the Personas page, you can:
View Personas
Search Personas
Edit Personas
Delete Personas
You can open a Persona in either of the following ways:
Click the Persona name.
Click the three-dot menu and select Edit.
If you attempt to leave the page with unsaved changes, Knak prompts you to:
Save changes
Continue editing
Discard changes
This helps prevent accidental data loss.
Search and Filter Personas
Use search, filters, and sorting options to quickly find Personas.
Search by Name
Enter a Persona name in the search bar.
Filter Personas
Click Filter to view available filtering options.
Filter by Brand
Click Filter.
Select Brand.
Choose a brand.
The list updates to display Personas associated with the selected brand.
Filter by Global Segment
Click Filter.
Select Global Segment.
Choose a Global Segment.
The list updates to display Personas associated with the selected Global Segment.
Sort Personas
Sort the Personas list by name:
A–Z to display Personas in ascending alphabetical order
Z–A to display Personas in descending alphabetical order
These options make it easier to manage large Persona libraries.
Use Personas in Preview
Select a Persona to apply saved preview settings.
Access Preview
You can open Preview in either of the following ways:
Click Preview at the bottom of the builder.
Click Actions and select Preview.
Preview values are enabled by default. All preview settings are available from a single interface, making it easier to test personalization and dynamic content.
Select a Persona
Open the Persona selector.
Select a Persona.
Knak automatically:
Populates merge tag values
Enables associated Global Segments
Updates preview content
Modify Preview Values
You can modify merge tag values directly in Preview for quick testing.
Select a Persona.
Edit a preview value.
Click Update.
The Preview switches to a Custom state. This indicates the current values differ from the saved Persona.
Reset Preview Values
Click Reset to restore the values stored in the selected Persona.
