Performance Insights (Knak)

Learn how to set up and use Knak Performance Insights' tracking pixel functionality

Knak's new Performance Insights features enable you to view key email metrics right in Knak! This feature records the clicks being tracked by using MAP specific merge tags from Marketo, SFMC, Pardot, and Eloqua.

Knak Performance Insights

Knak Performance Insights utilizes a tracking pixel added to your email at the time of sync to collect valuable performance metrics about your email and displays them conveniently within the Knak platform.

How do I enable this feature?

Knak Administrators can enable Performance Insights by following these easy steps:

  1. Navigate to the Admin side of your Knak instance

  2. Select Settings under the Company dropdown menu

  3. Scroll down to Sync and toggle on Knak Tracking Pixel

  4. Note: Once enabled, you can control whether tracking pixels are applied to emails in all brands or only a select few. Click edit to restrict which brands will use the tracking pixel feature, or keep the tracking available to all brands (global):

What metrics are available?

  • Total confirmed opens

    • Confirmed opens take into account Apple MPP-impacted opens to provide you with more accurate data

  • ❌ Dark mode vs light mode opens ❌

    • This has been temporarily removed

  • Email client breakdown

  • Mobile vs desktop breakdown

Where can I see these metrics?

Your metrics will be displayed in two places:

  1. On the asset tile in both the Studio and campaign views

  2. Under the Performance tab of the Knak Builder

FAQs

1. Can I see metrics for my landing pages?

Not at this time but it is something we’ll be incorporating in the future. For the time being since metrics are not available for landing pages in Knak as a workaround you can create two separate landing pages using Knak and then sync them to your MAP in order to conduct an A/B test for the pages.

2. Which emails can I see metrics for?

You can see metrics for all emails that are synced and sent, after the date that the feature was enabled.

3. How will this impact my use of MAP Performance Insights (Marketo, SFMC, or Account Engagement)?

If you already have MAP Performance Insights enabled (Marketo, SFMC, or Account Engagement), you'll see all of the key tracking pixel metrics plus the metrics available from your MAP. The only data that gets overridden is the open rate, which it will use the tracking pixel data for.

4. How accurate are the Apple MPP-Impacted Opens?

The Apple MPP (Mail Privacy Protection) impacted opens are tracked in our system, but their accuracy has inherent limitations due to how Apple's privacy protection works since Apple MPP pre-loads email content regardless of whether a user actually opens the email, making it difficult to determine genuine user engagement.

When calculating confirmed open rates, we subtract the Apple MPP opens from total opens - this approach attempts to provide a more accurate picture of actual user engagement by separating out the potentially automated opens triggered by Apple's privacy protection.

5. Why don’t Knak and Marketo open counts match?
Knak and Marketo track opens in different ways. This leads to differences in reported numbers.

  • Different definitions: Knak tracks Total Confirmed Opens using the Knak tracking pixel. Marketo often shows unique or attributed opens tied to known leads.

  • Attribution limits: Marketo may not count an open if it cannot link the activity to a recipient or send record. Knak still tracks the image load.

  • Timing differences: Knak logs opens close to real time. Marketo reports may update later.

  • Email client behavior: Some clients, like Gmail, use image proxies. Each platform may interpret these opens differently.

  • Report scope: Marketo reports can vary by view, such as email performance or program performance. These may not match the data Knak displays.

  • Deduplication rules: Each system uses different rules to count repeat opens. This includes counting by recipient, device, or time window.

These differences are expected. Open metrics across platforms will not always match exactly.
