Best Practices for Moving to a New Marketing Automation Platform

Learn how to transition from one Marketing Automation Platform (MAP) to another in Knak. Follow these best practices to reduce setup issues and keep your campaigns working correctly.

Before You Start

Before moving to a new Marketing Automation Platform, make sure you:

  • Have admin access in Knak

  • Have login credentials for your new MAP

Connect Your New Marketing Automation Platform

First, connect your new integration in Knak.

  1. Go to Admin

  2. Click Integrations

  3. Click Platforms

  4. Select your new Marketing Automation Platform

  5. Complete the integration setup steps

Add Sync Restrictions (Optional)

Sync restrictions help control where assets sync inside your Marketing Automation Platform.

  1. Go to Admin

  2. Click Integrations

  3. Open the Sync Restrictions tab

  4. Add restrictions as needed

You can use sync restrictions to:

  • Limit sync destinations

  • Organize assets by workspace or folder

  • Prevent accidental publishing

Edit Merge Tags

Merge tags, also called personalization tokens, may differ between Marketing Automation Platforms.

Knak merge tags support multiple MAP formats in a single token. This helps reduce rebuild work during migration.

Update Existing Merge Tags

  1. Open your templates or modules

  2. Locate your existing merge tags

  3. Edit the tag values to support your new Marketing Automation Platform

  4. Save your changes

You can also create new merge tags if additional personalization fields are needed for your new MAP.

Update Landing Page Forms

Landing pages using embedded forms from your old MAP must be updated.

Replace Existing Forms

  1. Open your landing page

  2. Locate the current form

  3. Replace it with the form from your new MAP

  4. Save and republish the page

Test the form submission after publishing.

Review UTM Parameters and Tracking

Your previous MAP may have used custom tracking parameters that do not transfer automatically.

Review all:

  • UTM parameters

  • Tracking links

  • Analytics settings

  • Campaign naming conventions

Bulk Update UTM Settings

You can update UTM settings at the brand level.

Email Settings

  1. Go to Admin

  2. Click Brands

  3. Select your brand

  4. Click Edit Brand

  5. Open Email Settings

Update Brand-Level UTM Settings

You can bulk update UTM parameters and tracking settings at the brand level for both emails and landing pages.

  1. Go to Admin

  2. Click Brands

  3. Select your brand

  4. Click Edit Brand

  5. Open either:

    • Email Settings for email tracking settings

    • Page Settings for landing page tracking settings

Important Notes

  • Keep fields unlocked if changes should only apply to new assets

  • Lock fields if changes should apply to existing assets when reopened

  • You need the correct role permissions to update brand-level admin settings
